The biggest inspiration for my collection of original paintings „The Shape of Water” was, of course, the ocean and the French coastal landscapes in Brittany and Normandy. Although I live in the beautiful Alsace in the Rhine valley, I try to spend every free week or even just a couple of days at the sea coast. I love the vastness and the depth of the sea, the beautiful ever changing blue and green shadows of the ocean water, the wild coast and the rocks, the dunes and the endless sandy beaches, the strong winds which seems never calm down.
All these feelings and impressions intuitively found their way into these paintings. I was enjoying the beautiful deep colors, bold and colorful pops of color, strong lines, the soft calming shadows. In this body of work I was experimenting with many layers, starting with acrylics, followed by oil pastels, charcoals and oil paints. I painted, scratched, painted, revealed and painted again. The process was long, but deeply satisfying. I hope you can feel my fascination with the ocean in my paintings and would love to have one of them in your home.
